Event summary

The São Silvestre de Barcelos is one of Portugal’s most iconic nighttime road races, blending festive atmosphere with competitive spirit in the historic city of Barcelos. Organized by Fundista – Sports Marketing Agency with the support of the Barcelos Municipality, the event welcomes runners of all ages and abilities.

Three races make up the event:

💨 10K race – open to all runners born in or before 2009

🚶 5K walk – open to all born in or before 2020

🧒 Kids’ races – distances vary, for children born between 2012 and 2021

Starting and finishing at Avenida da Liberdade (main avenue), the route showcases the vibrant cityscape lit up for the holidays. With free kids’ participation, medals, cash prizes, and a limited-entry, community-driven vibe, this is a race worth closing the season with.

⏱️ Cut-off Times

  • 10K run & 5K walk: 2 hours

  • Kids’ races: 15 minutes

  • Sweeper vehicle present – runners outside cut-off must follow public traffic rules
